XVIII secolo

L’attuale Palazzo Comunale è nato dall’accorpamento e dalla trasformazione di preesistenti edifici, tra i quali è da ricordare la chiesa della Confraternita di San Giuseppe Patriarca, costruita nel 1603. I lavori di riadattamento furono affidati nel Settecento al noto architetto reggiano Lodovico Bolognini, cui fecero seguito altri interventi nel corso dell’Ottocento e del Novecento, fino agli ultimi conclusisi nel 2004. Nell’atrio d’ingresso campeggiano un busto di Giuseppe Garibaldi (opera di Vincenzo Vela, 1882), numerosi stemmi e iscrizioni relative ai da Correggio e ad Ercole III d’Este infine un singolare “Campione” delle misure dei materiali da costruzione e non in uso a Correggio nel XVIII secolo. Al termine dello scalone “all’imperiale” vi è un vasto androne nel quale sono affrescate finte lapidi dei più illustri personaggi correggesi dei secoli dall’XI al XIX. L’atrio della Sala del Consiglio è affrescato con vedute di Correggio e ritratti del correggese Andrea Capretti. L’adiacente Sala del Consiglio Comunale è decorata dal Capretti e da un pittore attivo all’inizio dell’Ottocento soprannominato Il Pesarese.

The current Town Hall (Palazzo Comunale) was created through the unification and transformation of pre-existing buildings, including the church of the Confraternita di San Giuseppe Patriarca (Confraternity of St. Joseph the Patriarch), built in 1603. In the 18^th century, its renovation was entrusted to the famous Reggio Emilia architect Lodovico Bolognini ,  followed by further restorations in the 19^th and 20^th centuries, up to the most recent one completed in 2004. The atrium features a bust of Giuseppe Garibaldi (by Vincenzo Vela, dated 1882), many coats of arms andinscriptions regarding the Da Correggio family and Ercole III d’Este and an unusual “Campione” (Sample) with standard building measurements and materials used in Correggio in the 18^th century. At the end of the Empire-style stairway is a wide hall with frescoed headstones commemorating illustrious citizens of Correggio from the 11^th to the 19^th century. The Municipal Council Hall, whose entrance is frescoed with views of Correggio and portraits by Correggio artist Andrea Capretti, was decorated both by Capretti and by a painter from the early 19^th century, nicknamed Il Pesarese.
